On Monday, May 7, New School for Social Research alumni, faculty, students, and administrators will gather to celebrate NSSR’s unique contributions to the American academy and the 80th birthday of one of its most iconic living faculty members, Richard J. Bernstein, Vera List Professor of Philosophy.
Already a celebrated scholar when he joined the Graduate Faculty in 1989, Dick chaired the department of philosophy, was recognized with a Distinguished Teacher’s Award, and served as dean from 2002 to 2004. An essential part of the NSSR community since his arrival, Dick’s many contributions to NSSR have kept us close to the founding spirit of the University in Exile and helped us remain as intellectually vibrant as ever.
We hope you will join us for Professor Bernstein’s talk; “The Philosophical Spirit of The New School,” which celebrates and examines some of the defining characteristics of our institution. The talk is followed by a reception.
RSVP online by April 30th.
