You are invited to join us for our second tour of la Maison de Verre, Pierre Chareau’s Modernist masterpiece, on 19 December. This is part of Design Diversions Paris, a series of design-related visits and events organised by Denise Ramzy and based in New York, but temporarily in Paris!
We visited la Maison for the first time in November and had a wonderful tour with Mary Johnson, who is both an expert historian and storyteller. The house, designed as both a home and office for a gynecologist, was pioneering in many ways, including its use of materials, modern plumbing and construction (the lower two floors were built entirely beneath a resident who insisted on staying put on the third). This is a fantastic opportunity to see the restored space, as it is privately owned and not open to the public. Nicolai Ouroussoff’s 2007 article, “The Best House in Paris”, has some nice background if you’d like to know more.
Location: 31, rue Saint Guillaume 75007 Paris
Spots are very limited, so please let us know let us know right away if you’d like to come.
