Every semester Parsons Paris BFA Fashion Design students get to experience Paris Fashion Week firsthand thanks to our great collaborations and partners. This fall Fashion director Jasonpaul McCarthy received a call the night before the Hussein Chalayan’s womenswear show in need of extra help. The next morning was an early rise for students, who were thrown into the excitement of dressing the models backstage at 8am.

The stage was the Palais de Beaux Arts where Hussein Chalayan hosted his Spring ‘16 collection later that day. Thanks to TwoTwenty Production, who also produced our own Fashion Show – Graduating BFA Fashion Design Senior Collections last May, students received backstage access to work behind the scenes at Chalayan’s show.

@parif_kate caught models posing.
Students were responsible for everything backstage, from making sure all the garments where in the correct order, assigned to the right model, pressed and steamed, to tying shoes while watching Hussein do last minute styling, alterations and deciding which garments look best on each model. For professor Jasonpaul McCarthy, in addition to organising all the students backstage, he was responsible for towel drying the models who were part of the rainstorm on the runway that highlighted dissolving clothes! Despite the crazy energy of being backstage, students managed to capture the incredible experience, which they shared on Instagram.

Other exciting opportunities that students participated in during PFW S/S16 included attending shows all around Paris and working closely with the runway, backstage photography and video teams from InDigital Media. InDigital Media is an exclusive partnership at Parsons Paris where InDigital is able to take our students deep inside the inner workings of Fashion Week that most people don’t ordinarily get to experience without all-access passes. Each Fashion Week, InDigital works out of the Parsons Paris gallery to create photo and video content for Vogue.com. Take a look at some of SS16’s student highlights below, and don’t miss #parsonsparis_PFW for more awesome experiences!
