Remembering Anna-Maria Kellen

We mourn the loss of Anna-Maria Kellen, devoted philanthropist and longtime supporter of Parsons School of Design. Mrs. Kellen passed away this weekend at the age of 98.

Mr. and Mrs. Kellen’s generous gifts to the university led to the establishment of the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, Auditorium, and Archives at Parsons. Mrs. Kellen was a member of the Parsons Board of Governors for many years, beginning in 1979.

Mrs. Kellen offered her support to nonprofit cultural institutions, educational centers, and health-related charities through the foundation she established with her husband. In 1997, then New York City Mayor Ed Koch awarded Mr. and Mrs. Kellen the Spirit of the City Award in recognition of their enormous commitment to cultural enlightenment in New York City.

Mrs. Kellen was a member of the extended Arnhold family, which has provided unwavering generosity and leadership to The New School over many years and in so many ways. Anna-Maria Kellen’s commitment to our community, especially to our students, will be deeply missed.
