Lifting Holds and Eliminating Late Fees
Dear Students,
The COVID-19 situation has been disruptive for us all, and we understand that paying for your education is another stressor, especially when you and your family may be facing unexpected financial challenges. It is important to us that you are able to make progress toward your degree, register on time for your fall/summer 2020 classes, and pay for classes as you are able without penalty. As you may have heard at Thursday’s town hall or in Friday’s message from President Van Zandt and Provost Marshall, we are implementing measures to help make this happen.Â
The following procedures will be in place through the fall/summer 2020 registration period, which begins for all students on Monday:
- Students will have the ability to register for classes despite most account holds. While the reason for the hold, and the hold itself, may remain, this measure will ensure that students are able to register on time.
- No late payment fees or holds have been or will be applied for students who miss(ed) their March, April, or May payment plan installments.
- Students should pay what they can, when they can, and stay in touch with Student Accounts so they know your plans for paying your balance.
- Graduating students who continue to pay off their Spring balance beyond the standard timeframe can still access transcripts, and their diplomas will not be held.
- Prorated housing and meal plan refunds are being credited to students’ accounts as quickly as possible. For students who have balances on their student accounts, including payment plan installments, the refunded amount was first applied to those outstanding charges as an account credit. All credits were applied to student accounts by Friday, April 3.
- Any funds remaining after credits were applied will be refunded via the original form of payment, hopefully by the end of the week. If you have not yet done so, we encourage you to sign up for direct deposit in MyNewSchool to expedite the refund process; funds can be distributed faster electronically than by check. Getting students their account credits and refunds is Student Accounts’ top priority.
Your success matters to us, and we hope that these changes will help support you as you continue to pursue your educational goals. We are committed to assisting you however we can through this difficult time. Be safe and well.
