Updated Grading Policy – Spring 2020
Dear New School Faculty and Staff:
The University administration continues to make adjustments to mitigate the negative effects of the current COVID-19 health crisis on our students. The feedback that we have received from our community asked that, for the Spring 2020 Semester, the grades of “I” and “Z” be eliminated. After much consideration by the deans of the various schools and colleges and the Teaching and Learning Committee, a Revised Spring 2020 Grading Policy that eliminates the “I” and “Z” grades for this semester has been adopted. More information on grading this semester can be found here.
The Teaching and Learning Committee also adopted a Temporary Spring 2020 Transfer Credit Policy. This policy extends the deadline for students to submit transcripts for work done outside of The New School. It also eliminates the requirement for students to get pre-approval before registering for study at other institutions. Students should, however, consult with their advisor, submit the approval form as soon as possible, and ensure that coursework taken outside The New School aligns with all requirements in existing transfer credit policies (e.g., course content, residency requirement, source of credits, etc.).
We are grateful for your ongoing support of and advocacy for our students and thank you for the dedication you have shown in persevering under very difficult circumstances.
