Spring 2020 Grading Policy

Dear Students,

The continued dedication of Lang faculty and staff have been a source of strength for me particularly during these uncertain times. I’ve witnessed how the unusual circumstances that have evolved over recent weeks have amplified their commitment to your academic success. We couldn’t have imagined closing out our academic year in this manner. With only a few weeks left in the spring semester, I want to make sure that there is no uncertainty around the grading policy.

The global pandemic has caused disruption to our academic community and in light of all that students are facing, completing this semester is important. All college deans at The New School have given much consideration to the revised grading policy. All students will receive an “A” or “A-” grade for the spring 2020 semester. Students who withdraw from a course will receive a “W” grade.

Please review the Revised Spring 2020 Grading Policy that eliminates the “I” and “Z” grades for this semester. Additionally, a Temporary Spring 2020 Transfer Credit Policy has been adopted. This policy extends the deadline for students to submit transcripts for work done outside of The New School.

I want to commend all of you for your perseverance. We only have a little further to go and I hope that although your classes are online, you continue to find value in staying engaged through your coursework and collective experience.

In support,
Stephanie
