Enhanced Student Emergency Fund is Closed

Dear Students,

In my message on Tuesday afternoon, I shared that we had closed the application for CARES Act funding and were close to exhausting the university funds. On Tuesday night we reached the $1 million dollar mark in requests for aid from the university fund and have closed the application.

Over the past week, we have allocated nearly $3.5 million dollars to assist students facing unforeseen hardships due to the COVID-19 crisis. While we are still processing award payments for the most recent applications, we have distributed funds to more than 2,400 students to date. A final summary of aid awards will be available early next week.

Staff across Student Success, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Business & Finance are working tirelessly to ensure that funds are distributed quickly and, in the case of CARES Act funding, according to federal guidelines. If you have not yet received your award notification, please watch for an email from the Student Emergency Fund team shortly.

In the coming months, the university will work to replenish the Student Emergency Fund in support of our students with urgent need. Students will be notified in fall 2020 when they can apply for more funding. Until then, please consult the Student Resource Hub to learn about other opportunities for assistance around The New School and in the New York City area. If you would like to speak with a staff member about the resources outlined in the Student Resource Hub, please contact sef@newschool.edu to set up an appointment. Financial Aid also has staff available to discuss other methods to finance your education.

We know that so many of our students are affected by this crisis and are experiencing great need. We remain committed to looking for new ways to support you in this difficult time.
