Student Health Services Summer Offerings

Dear Students,

We all continue to be deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and our priority is to connect you with the medical and counseling services you need. We understand that students have questions about university health services over the summer months, and we are writing to provide important updates. Student Health Services has reached out to all current medical patients to alert them to changes in services for the summer and offer alternative resources to access care.

Counseling Services will continue to offer flexible, shortened telecounseling appointments throughout the summer to ensure continuity of care and to assist students who may need support. You can make an appointment online at shsportal.newschool.edu.
  • Students enrolled in the student health insurance plan also have access to the BetterHelp virtual counseling platform.
  • Learn about other counseling services in the Mental Health Resources section of the Student Resource Hub.

We have compiled resources to help students access local medical care providers for summer services. While our university medical services office is closed for the summer, our medical resource website will continue to serve as a resource to help connect you to NYC-area health care providers during the summer. We encourage you to contact your local medical provider for your medical needs. Especially during this time, it is critical to take good care of your health.

  • If you are enrolled in the student health insurance plan and residing in the United States, visit the Gallagher Student Health site to find in-network providers wherever you’re located for in-person or telemedicine appointments. Visit their “find a doctor” link to search.
  • If you are enrolled in the student health insurance plan and are outside of the United States, you can make telehealth appointments through the student health insurance plan with U.S.-based doctors, though they cannot prescribe medicine to patients located outside the U.S. To access prescriptions, your out-of-network benefits will apply. You’ll need to get a receipt from your doctor, in English if possible, that shows the services you received and the amount you paid. Please follow the instructions for submitting the claim to UnitedHealthcare StudentResources for reimbursement.
Insurance Update

If you had health insurance from a provider other than the student health insurance plan that you have lost within the last 30 days, you can visit Gallagher Student Health to enroll in the student health insurance plan for a prorated premium. The policy ends on August 19, 2020.

Beginning July 1, SHS staff will be available to answer questions or address your needs. We are committed to getting through this together.

We wish you all the best and hope you stay healthy and safe.
