2021-2022 Campus Housing and Dining

A message from AJ Lutz, Director of Housing and Residential Education

As the university prepares for in-person classes this fall, I am pleased to share that we will be expanding our on-campus housing and dining plan options for the 2021-2022 academic year.

All students who wish to live on campus next school year are invited to apply by April 1 to participate in room selection. We anticipate reopening residence hall lounges, fitness centers, art rooms, and other amenities to provide the enriching community living experience our students expect. To help keep our residents and staff safe, we will continue to follow the health and safety guidelines outlined in our COVID-19 Community Guide.

Below is more information about our residence halls, how to apply for housing, and the new dining plan options that will be available beginning in the fall semester.

Our Residential Communities

Whether you want to live your best East Village life or be in the center of the Union Square hustle and bustle, our residence halls are centrally located near supermarkets, department stores, and some of the best food NYC has to offer. Each one is within a five to 15 minute walk from campus.

The following residence halls will be available to continuing students in the 2021-2022 academic year:

  • Loeb Hall and Kerrey Hall will be home to both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • 20th Street Residence, located in the charming Chelsea neighborhood, will serve as a community for junior, senior and graduate students.
  • 301 Residence is our newest residence hall located on the corner of First Avenue and 17th Street. While it will primarily house first-year students, a limited number of rooms will be reserved for continuing students.

All of our residence halls are suite-style with in-unit kitchenettes and bathrooms, which give students a taste of NYC apartment living and opportunities to connect with their peers.

Apply for 2021-2022 Campus Housing

Students may choose to live on campus for the academic year (9 months) or for the entire calendar year (12 months). To help you decide which option is right for you, review the rates and fees to compare the costs for each residence hall, room type, and length of stay.

Once you are ready to apply, log on to the housing portal and click “Housing Applications” in the menu bar. Continuing students must submit their application and $350 deposit by April 1 in order to participate in our housing selection process. After Housing and Residential Education receives your application, we will reach out to you with more information about how to pick your room.

For those who are interested in becoming a Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2021-2022 academic year, you may apply on NarwhalNation beginning March 22 through Friday, April 2.

Dining Plans

For the 2021-2022 academic year, the university is excited to introduce four new dining plan options. The One, Two, Three, and Express plans were designed to give students the flexibility to eat on campus when it is convenient for them. Continuing residential students will be automatically enrolled in the One plan but may elect to participate in the Two, Three, or Express dining plans, or opt out of the dining plan program entirely. Please visit the Meal Plans page for more information.

I wish you all a successful remainder of the semester and look forward to welcoming you back to campus this fall. If you have any questions about living in the residence halls or the housing application, please email us at universityhousing@newschool.edu.
