Reminder: Entry Testing and FAQs

As we look forward to resuming in-person instruction on February 7, we’re sharing important reminders and FAQs about your entry testing and ongoing requirements.

As always, we encourage everyone to visit our COVID-19 Community Guide regularly for the most up-to-date information and guidance about university policies, accessing campus spaces, and keeping our community safe and healthy.

Remember Your Entry Test!

Regardless of your first day on site, community members must test within seven days before your first time on campus.

For example, if your first time on campus will be Monday, February 7 for the resumption of in-person learning, please test no later than Thursday, February 3 to ensure your result is processed in time.

Quick Answers To Some Common Testing Questions

When should I test if I’m traveling to campus from outside of New York?
Please test before traveling to ensure you are negative when you arrive.

What are the testing requirements after coming back?
After you arrive on campus, testing requirements for academic building access continue from the Fall semester. Vaccinated individuals must test no later than every 14 days and individuals with medical or religious exemptions no later than every 4 days.

I recently tested positive for COVID-19. Do I have to test before or after I arrive on campus?
Any community member who has tested positive for COVID-19 does not need to take an entry test or ongoing tests for 90 days after their positive result. However, they must upload proof of their recent positive result to the SHS Portal (and be cleared to leave isolation) before entering campus.

Are tests available on campus?
On-campus binx tests are readily accessible in multiple locations, quick to take and drop off, and are processed with timely results. Community members can briefly enter a campus building to access an on-campus test, even if they haven’t submitted a recent result. If you use an outside PCR test provider, please upload your result as soon as possible.

What kind of tests are required for building access?
PCR tests are required for university testing due to their lab-verified accuracy.

Can I take a rapid antigen test?
Rapid antigen tests are not accepted for entry testing and access to academic buildings. But they can be helpful when making travel and other decisions. If you do take a rapid antigen test and receive a positive result, please upload your result as soon as possible and reach out to Student Health Services or Human Resources for further guidance.

Where should I go if I have questions about the testing requirement?
We know you may have questions about the updated guidance and policies. For help, students should email shs@newschool.edu. Faculty and staff should contact BenefitsHelp@newschool.edu.
