Messages to the Community

Spring Break Guidance for Entry Testing and Building Access

Two weeks ago we announced some of the first modifications to our health and safety protocols, including welcoming back visitors to campus and reducing required testing for up-to-date community members. These are important early steps in what we hope will be a continued effort to reduce the protective measures on campus. We are pleased to share that the campus operating level is now green, thanks to the extremely low level of transmission in our community and our commitment to caring for each other.

Please scroll down to read more about Spring Break testing guidance, the post-Break building access and visitors policy, and important reminders to help keep everyone safe and healthy.

Spring Break Guidance

We know that many of you are looking forward to Spring Break, which takes place from March 14 through March 20. Whether you will be staying on or near campus or traveling, we encourage everyone to practice healthy behaviors that protect you and those around you, such as wearing masks indoors and avoiding crowded spaces.

Please read the sections below carefully for information about post-break entry testing and other important reminders.

Before You Travel

If you plan to travel, we recommend that you test prior to leaving to confirm you are negative, especially before gathering with family members who may be at high risk or not yet vaccinated. On-campus binx test kits remain free and accessible to all community members throughout Spring Break.

Post Spring Break Entry Testing

Everyone who will be on campus during the weeks following Spring Break–regardless of whether they traveled or remained local–must take a PCR test between Monday, March 21 and Friday, March 25.

  • If you are on or near campus, please use the university’s on-campus binx test kits, which are processed quickly without additional uploads or verifications.
  • Outside PCR tests continue to be accepted. Outside test results must be uploaded as soon as possible to the SHS Portal.
  • Community members who are not up-to-date or unvaccinated continue to be required to test no later than every 4 days for building access. To ensure they can access campus after Spring Break on Monday, March 21, they should test before the end of Spring Break (e.g., Thursday, March 17 or Friday, March 18).
  • If you will not be on campus between Monday, March 21 and Saturday, April 2, you are not required to take an entry test.

Academic Building Access (March 28 to April 1)

Beginning Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, academic building access will require a recent negative PCR test result. Please see the table above for your required testing frequency based on vaccination status during this period.

Post Spring Break entry testing will help reestablish a baseline of campus transmission after an extended break. We will update the community by Thursday, March 31 about the results and next steps for campus testing.

We expect to resume our updated testing policy on Saturday, April 2.

Post Spring Break Visitor Policy (March 21 to March 27)

Visitors to campus will be restricted for one week following Spring Break (March 21 to March 27), unless previously approved by the Provost’s Office. The  updated policy will restart Monday, March 28.

  • During March 21 to March 27, all previously approved campus visitors must show proof of a recent negative COVID test result (either PCR test within 7 days prior to arrival or a same-day rapid antigen test).
  • Other visitor policies remain in effect, including a requirement to be up-to-date with COVID vaccination and to wear a mask while indoors.

RemindersIt’s up to all of us to prioritize the health and safety of our community.

  • Masks are required in all indoor campus spaces. More information will be shared shortly about providing input and feedback about our campus-wide mask policy.
  • Visitors and guests are welcome to campus if they are up-to-date with their COVID vaccination. The Welcome Center Visitors Desk is open seven days a week to review vaccination status and issue a guest pass.
  • If you feel sick or develop symptoms, please stay home and immediately contact Student Health Services or your medical provider.
  • Everyone must follow the university’s isolation policy to help limit the spread of the virus to others.

We encourage you to visit the university’s COVID-19 Community Guide for the latest information about our campus.
