New School Alerts Test on Thursday, September 8th; Safety App Available for Download
New School Alerts provide quick and reliable communication to students, faculty, and staff about potential or actual emergencies affecting The New School by sending messages to individuals’ cell phones (text and voice), land lines, and email addresses.
The New School’s Office of Campus Safety will be testing the New School Alerts emergency notification system on Thursday, September 8th from 11:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
In the test, messages will be sent to the phone numbers and personal email addresses provided by registered New School Alerts users and to all New School email addresses.
If you have not yet registered your personal contact information with New School Alerts, please log in to my.newschool.edu, select the “Services” tab, then select the “Update contact info link” located under the New School Alerts logo, and follow the instructions provided.
THE NEW SCHOOL SAFETY APP
As part of our continuing efforts to enhance safety across The New School’s campus, we also encourage everyone to download The New School Safety App, a smartphone app for use by students, faculty, and staff that offers users the ability to make immediate contact with either the police or Campus Safety with the touch of a button – no dialing required – to report a crime or other incident, or request immediate assistance in the event of an emergency. The app should only be used while on The New School’s New York City campus.
Campus Safety may be contacted for incidences including:
- Suspicious individuals
- Water leaks/flooding
- Gas leaks Power outages
- Medical emergencies
- Stuck occupied elevators
911 may be called in the event of immediate and dire emergencies, including:
- Criminal activity
- Fire
- Intruders
- Medical emergencies
- Bomb threats
- Suspicious packages
