Progress Towards an Agreement for Our Part-Time Faculty

A Message from Dr. Dwight A. McBride, President and University Professor

Despite numerous and significant improvements made by The New School in its offer, the ACT-UAW Local 7902 bargaining team has not yet accepted an enhanced proposal from the university that agrees to all the union’s compensation demands and makes substantial movement on all other demands. We and the mediator offered to continue meeting this afternoon and evening but the union has declined to do so. The university and mediator are available tomorrow, but the union has yet to confirm their availability to meet tomorrow. We consider this to be of the utmost urgency, and the university’s bargaining team will continue to make itself available to meet with the mediator and the union at any time this weekend to reach an agreement.

We will keep you informed as we work to reach an agreement that demonstrates the respect we have for our part-time faculty. At the same time, we must remain focused on protecting and supporting our students’ academic experience. It is time to come together and end the strike, so that our students and our community can complete the semester with confidence and certainty.
