Message Regarding the Earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria

A Message from Dr. Dwight A. McBride, President and University Professor; and Dr. Renée T. White, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

The devastation and loss of life stemming from the earthquakes in southern Türkiye and Syria are staggering and horrific. The New School has many students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who are from Türkiye and Syria, and who have friends and family who live in these countries. Our thoughts are with all who are affected as they begin a long and difficult recovery from this natural disaster. As an important first step in our community, Student Success and International Student and Scholar Services have been in touch with students from the region to offer support and assistance.

A group of New School students from Türkiye have organized a clothing and supply drive in the University Center lobby that began yesterday and will continue through the weekend, from 9:00 AM – 7:30 PM each day. They are collecting donations of cold weather clothing and gear such as blankets, sleeping bags, jackets, gloves, and hats. Baby sized clothing and hygiene products are also appreciated. In addition to donations, this is a place to be present with our students, to offer support, and find strength in this moment of crisis.

We’ve also included links below to established organizations providing relief and support in the region for anyone in our community who would like to contribute.

Our university is fortunate to be able to forge connections with students and faculty from around the world. We want all of the members of our community who are from Türkiye and Syria to know that we are here for you and that we support you during this devastating time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the resources listed below.
