Student Remedies Task Force Update and Student Survey

A Message from Dr. Robert Mack, Vice Provost for Student Success and Engagement, Co-Chair of the Student Remedies Task Force and Mikayla Durham, Lang, Director of Engagement in the University Student Senate, Co-Chair of the Student Remedies Task Force

Dear New School community,

Earlier this semester, Provost White announced the formation of the Student Remedies Task Force and its charge to assess how the strike and a variety of other activities on campus affected the student experience in the fall. Today, we write to share an update on the ongoing work being done.

Students, faculty and staff were identified to serve on this Task Force by each college’s Executive Dean in consultation with their communities. The members, along with support staff from Student Success and Engagement and the Office of the Provost, have met twice and have begun discussing the impacts of last fall. The ultimate goal of the task force is to recommend a set of equitable and achievable remedies that can be implemented in the coming months for current and graduating students. All recommendations developed by the Task Force will be advanced for consideration to Provost White and Executive Vice President for Business and Operations Shobowale.

The Task Force has shaped and submitted an initial recommendation, which we expect to report back on after break. Meanwhile, we would like your input to further develop, shape, and refine the task force’s work and full set of recommendations.

As a next step, the Task Force has developed a short survey for student feedback in order to better understand the impact of the strike. We ask all students to please share your honest thoughts in the survey by March 22. We will use your feedback to help inform and structure our meetings and future recommendations.

Thank you in advance for your participation and input into this process. We look forward to sharing another update on the progress of this work with our community in April.
