2023-2024 Tuition Rates and Offset Grant for Continuing Students
To The New School Community,
Each year, university leadership and the Board of Trustees conduct a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of the university’s finances to set a tuition and fee structure that enables us to provide our students with outstanding academic programming and co-curricular services. We are mindful that paying for college is a significant investment and a challenge for many members of our community. We are also mindful of the disruptions students experienced last semester.
While tuition bills will reflect a 3.5 percent increase as approved by the Board of Trustees, the university will provide continuing students with an “offset grant” that will effectively keep their tuition costs for next year unchanged. The grant from the university will be directly applied to students’ accounts no later than July 15. Tuition for new students in the next academic year will rise by 3.5 percent, which is less than the 3.8 increase during the previous academic year.
These offset grants provide a tangible remedy for the disruptions students experienced last semester. The Student Remedies Task Force strongly recommended special consideration be given to students impacted in the fall, including the advancement and implementation of this offset grant. The Task Force will continue to present further recommendations to the university leadership for review in the coming weeks and consider additional remedies for students, including those outside of the returning cohort such as December and May graduates.
It is important to know that the income the university collects in tuition, room and board, and fees is the primary source of funding for providing a New School education. More information about tuition and fees for the 2023–2024 academic year is available on the Tuition and Fees page. We encourage all students to take advantage of the resources available through Financial Aid and Scholarship Advising and consider the range of options to help finance their education.
Ensuring the mission and future of The New School is our highest priority, and we remain focused on the university’s commitment to innovate, educate and inform. We are fully dedicated to this vision and hope this grant helps move us closer toward our shared aims.
