Our Next Steps: A Message from the Board Chair
A Message from Linda E. Rappaport, Chair, Board of Trustees
Dear New School Community,
I am writing on behalf of The New School’s Board of Trustees to update you on the steps we are taking following President McBride’s announcement that he will be stepping down later this summer.
Our immediate priority is to quickly identify an Interim President who understands The New School and can help us chart our path forward while we prepare for the appointment of our next permanent President. A group of Trustees, along with a faculty member and a staff member, are actively engaged in finding a highly qualified person to serve in this interim role for at least one year, during which time we will conduct an international search for our next permanent leader.
Looking ahead, we see the process of finding our next permanent President as a robust, inclusive, and participatory undertaking. It will reflect our university’s deeply held values and rich legacy of open dialogue, engagement, and exchange of ideas. This effort will involve our full community in envisioning our future, as well as defining the characteristics we want in a new President.
Over the next two months, President McBride and the university’s leadership, including the President’s Leadership Team and Executive Deans, will continue their normal activity. The important work in academic and financial planning to identify potential ways to address the budget deficit, including the proposals from the Expanded University Budget Committee, will carry on alongside the ongoing teaching, learning, scholarship, and creative work of our faculty and students.
We look forward to sharing further updates and are grateful for your commitment to the university.
Linda E. Rappaport
Chair, Board of Trustees
