Update on the Interim President Search
A Message from Linda E. Rappaport, Chair, Board of Trustees
Dear New School Community,
I am writing on behalf of The New School’s Board of Trustees to update you on our search for an Interim President.
Since our initial announcement at the beginning of the summer, the search advisory committee has been hard at work to identify a highly qualified candidate to lead our university forward on an interim basis. The community’s commitment to the mission and future of The New School is among our greatest strengths, and we are focused on balancing the community’s desire for input with the expedited timeline for this search.
In response to calls for greater inclusion, a student has joined the search advisory committee to ensure a student perspective is reflected in this important work. In addition, over the past several weeks, I have met with the co-chairs of the University Faculty Senate and leadership of the University Student Senate, as well as the President’s Leadership Team and the Executive Deans, to discuss the search. The University Staff Senate has also been in communication with the staff representative on the search advisory committee. We are grateful for their partnership and valuable input in this process.
The search process is on track, and the search advisory committee is advancing through the process of reviewing candidates. We are seeking a highly experienced leader who will take on the full range of responsibilities that are essential to this role, including a strong familiarity with the needs of running a complex, urban, private university; knowledge of The New School; an understanding and appreciation for our progressive ethos, culture, and values; and experience in addressing budgetary challenges. Importantly, we want to ensure that our interim leader embraces The New School’s deeply rooted commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice as we chart the path forward for the university.
