A Message from Dr. Dwight A. McBride, President and University Professor
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
As I conclude my service as The New School’s President, I want to express my gratitude and very best wishes to each and every one of you who make up our New School community. It has been an honor to serve and to lead this remarkable university .
The Board of Trustees has made an excellent choice in identifying Dr. Donna Shalala to be the Interim President. She is a deeply respected and distinguished leader in higher education and public service whose record of accomplishment speaks for itself. I know she will have a positive impact during her tenure here.
When I accepted the invitation to become The New School’s President, I was excited by the university’s reputation for rigorous teaching and learning, unbridled creativity, collaborative problem solving, and fearless engagement with pressing and complex issues. I remain an enthusiastic admirer of these values and commitments.
Over the past several years, we have faced unprecedented challenges and we have continued to move forward, guided by our shared aspirations. We have made progress toward becoming a more integrated and student-centered university and a higher education leader for civic engagement, equity, and inclusion.
I leave The New School today with a sense of optimism for its future. Our faculty are steadfastly committed to providing an excellent and unparalleled academic experience for our students, and this core mission is supported by a superb and dedicated staff. Across all of the work and activities at the university, the orientation to the New remains clear and strong.
As I begin the next chapter of my own academic journey, I’ll continue to watch and learn and celebrate the great things happening at The New School. And I will always be proud that we are now a part of each other’s shared histories.
