Update on the President Search

A Message from Linda E. Rappaport, Chair, Board of Trustees; and Dominique Bluhdorn, Trustee

Dear Members of The New School Community,

The search for our next President is proceeding on schedule. We have recently finished an important early phase of the process: listening to our community and developing a deeper understanding of its needs and concerns. We are grateful for the thoughtfulness and candor that was brought to these listening sessions. Our partners at Isaacson, Miller and members of the Search Committee have met with individual leaders, faculty in the colleges, the faculty, staff, and student Senates, and participated in open community sessions. Many individuals chose to share their views via our online survey as well. Thank you to everyone who participated in this initial phase of the search process.

We recognize the community’s strong desire for a president who will work collaboratively and transparently through challenging issues, make wise and equitable decisions, and engage within the institution—across the colleges and at all levels. We need a president who is a proven fundraiser and who will lift up and support the great work of our students, faculty and staff with the spirit of innovation and creativity that has always characterized The New School.

These reflections among others are captured in the position profile that is now published and being circulated widely among prospective candidates. We hope you will share it among your own networks to help us reach individuals who are prepared for this unique role in higher education leadership.
