Launching The New School’s Accessibility Web Tool

A Message from Dr. Renée T. White, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

‌In support of our commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for all members of our community, I am pleased to announce the launch of the university’s Accessibility Widget powered by UserWay.

‌The New School is committed to making our web presence accessible and inclusive in compliance with federal and state regulations. Beginning today, the UserWay Accessibility Widget is available for use and provides accessibility profiles ranging from visual impairment, cognitive and learning, dyslexia, color blindness, and more.

‌Colleagues across the university from Information Technology, Library, Collections, and Academic Services, Marketing and Communications, and the Provost’s Office have worked together to address how we can make our website more inclusive for all users. The work around improving accessibility at The New School will continue with the development of an accessibility toolkit. This toolkit will be available before the fall semester to educate our community about what accessibility looks like, why it’s important, and how we can all contribute to making The New School a more inclusive and equitable place of learning.

How to Use the Accessibility Widget

  • ‌On any New School website, click on the circular icon of a person standing with arms outstretched on the lower left corner of every page.
  • ‌This menu provides specialized accessibility tools designed for specific audiences, including those with dyslexia, people who need different kinds of contrast, screen reader facilitation, and more.
  • ‌Visit the UserWay website to learn more about the widget’s accessibility profiles

‌For additional resources, please visit the Student Disability Services website

‌‌If you would like to add the UserWay Accessibility Widget to your university website that is not part of www.newschool.edu, please reach out for more information.
