Statement of Agreement to Vote on Divestment
On or before June 14, the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not to completely divest in companies identified by the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility (ACIR), bringing The New School’s investments in these companies to zero.
This call is based on resolutions by: the Gaza Solidarity Encampments; the University Faculty Senate; University Student Senate; University Staff Senate; as well as the faculty councils of Eugene Lang College, The New School for Social Research, Schools of Public Engagement, Parsons School of Design, and the AAUP chapter. They call for complete divestment from industries implicated in military and police violence in Gaza and the West Bank, and all global militarized conflict such as companies or subsidiaries involved in weapons manufacturing, military supplies and equipment, military communication, and public surveillance technology.
The Investment Committee will publicly announce the voting results as well as a rationale for their decision. A vote for divestment will be binding upon approval from the Board of Trustees. Divestment will be completed within one investment quarter and will be monitored on a quarterly basis. Upon a public statement of agreement to vote on divestment, The Gaza Solidarity Encampment will disband.
The President commits that no community member will face disciplinary, professional, or other legal sanctions for being in the 72 Fifth Avenue encampment and the faculty encampment in the University Center.
