‌Below are some of the resources available to support our campus community. We hope this information will help everyone make the most of the new academic year.

Campus Life

‌The Student Success team at The New School is dedicated to fostering an environment that inspires innovation, critical thinking, and creative exploration. The team works collaboratively with all facets of the university to equip you with resources and opportunities that allow you to thrive both academically and personally.

‌Living in New York City can be stressful, but is made easier by the Residential Education team, who enhance and support your residential experience by creating a safe, inclusive, and just living environment and community. The office includes Resident Assistants, Resident Directors, Community Assistants, and more who are committed to values of safety and responsibility, community and connection, and personal development and accountability. 

‌The New School has a variety of Dining options available, whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, or eat anything under the sun. In addition to the main dining hall in the University Center, the university also offers food options at other locations, which you can find by visiting the Dining homepage

‌The New School Libraries provide access to collections, services, and spaces to support our community and the research and teaching mission of The New School. There are three main libraries on campus, as well as an archives and special collections center, which is available by appointment.

‌Do you want to get involved with a student organization on campus, or start one of your own? The Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Transition Experiences supports student groups, which allow students not only to build leadership skills but also to establish lasting connections, communities, friendships, and more. ‌Each year, The New School hosts more than 1,000 Public Programs on our campus. Events include interviews, readings, screenings, and talks with some of the most famous and engaged people, organizations, and institutions around the world. To learn about upcoming events, visit the Events Calendar.

‌The university offers numerous Fitness and Wellness activities, including free group fitness classes, intramural sports, and outdoor adventures throughout the city, like rock climbing and bike rides. The programs and activities are designed for students at all levels of experience, ability, knowledge, and interest.

‌Do you want to share your New School pride? Drop by The New Store, located on the ground floor of the University Center, to purchase official university merchandise, including clothing, collectibles, and school essentials.

‌There are more than 3,500 international students and research scholars at The New School, representing more than 100 countries. International Students and Scholars Services is dedicated to providing students and scholars with immigration support services and programs so that they can succeed in achieving their academic and career goals during their time in New York City.

Student Health Services provides medical and mental health services, information about insurance, anti-violence tools, and more. A comprehensive list of health and wellness resources can be found here, and appointments can be scheduled via the Student Health Services portal

‌The Food Pantry is a free service available to all students who do not have adequate means to buy their own food. Eligible students are also able to use the pantry in order to meet the needs of all members of their household. Located at the University Center’s Event Café, room L103A, the Food Pantry hours vary, so please check the website to make sure the Pantry is open, or email the team to schedule an appointment.

Financial and Academic Support

The Office of Academic Advising supports students throughout their time at The New School. Our advisors provide guidance about the academic experience and help students flourish as they prepare to transition into the world after graduation. Students can explore career options and develop connections between their educational pursuits and potential professional paths thanks to the Center for Career Development. Visit our Handshake platform to find job listings and career events.

The Registrar’s Office supports the educational values and goals of the university by providing quality enrollment and academic records services to students, alumni, faculty, and staff. They can help you register for classes, find your grades, locate transcripts, and much more.

Have a question related to Financial Aid? Our counselors are available to meet by email or phone Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students also have the ability to drop in and speak with someone from the team, no appointment necessary, on Zoom during Financial Aid virtual walk-in hours, Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Students and their families can contact the Office of Student Accounts for any questions related to tuition, fees, and billing. The Office also helps students and their families understand their financial rights and responsibilities.

If you need extra help, students can contact the Dean of Students or their college Dean’s Office for information and support.

Technology, Tools, and Creative Resources

Connect and collaborate with classmates, faculty, and staff with Information Technology resources, tools, and guides that support your research, work and studies.

‌The New School’s official identification card is the Newcard, which gives you access to university buildings, services at various on-campus facilities, as well as student discounts at a variety of local businesses and venues. For any on-campus event, please remember that you must present your Newcard.

Printing on campus has never been easier thanks to numerous printers located throughout campus, where you can utilize either a Technology Center computer or a personal laptop. Printing is available for degree-seeking students and summer intensive students, faculty, and staff.

In addition to highlighting the breadth of work by our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, the Marketing and Communications Department provides logos, templates, and tools to help you meet your creative needs. For more information, please visit the Tools and Training page.

Student Advocacy

The Office of Equity and Belonging at The New School is committed to cultivating community, providing access to opportunities, and valuing diversity through education and outreach. Join The Belonging Journey, a dialogue series hosted by Equity and Belonging this fall, focused on exploring structural inequalities, understanding power and privilege, and bolstering a sense of belonging as part of the remedy.

The New School is committed to creating and sustaining an environment where students, faculty, and staff can study, work, and thrive unhampered by discrimination or harassment. The Title IX Office provides resources for on- and off-campus medical and counseling services, academic and housing support, referrals to legal and confidential advocacy organizations, and assistance with visas and immigration, transportation, financial aid matters, and more. 

There are a variety of resources available to LGBTQIAGNC students, faculty, and staff to help build and maintain a respectful, supportive, inclusive community and learning environment for everyone on our campus. Learn how you can get involved on our website.

The Center for Military-Affiliated Students is an important resource hub designed to guide and support all veterans, service members, and military spouses and family members from admission to graduation and beyond. The Center ensures that veterans and dependents get the support they need to transition smoothly into an academic setting and civilian life through individualized resources and in-person social and educational programming.

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards ensures that all students have positive experiences at The New School in an environment conducive to harmonious living and learning. Through the university’s student conduct processes and outreach, our team educates students on their rights and responsibilities as New School community members, and supports their success. Student Support works with students to help them navigate non-academic challenges, distressing experiences, and crisis situations that affect their educational experience and university life.
