Fifth Communication to The New School Community from the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility

A Message from the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility

After publishing the fall report from the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility (ACIR) in September, we write to share the following updates from three governance bodies on campus: the University Student Senate, the University Faculty Senate, and the University Staff Senate. A majority of the members of these bodies voted in favor of the ACIR’s motion to move The New School’s endowment towards divestment from military industry companies specified in the report.

*Active Senators at the time of each vote. A quorum was met for each Senate; see bylaws on each Senate website.

Specific Senate seats have been filled since that time, and the following Senate Seats are up for election:

  • University Student Senate: Recently, the size of the Student Senate increased from 32 to 35. The next election will be in Fall 2025.
  • University Faculty Senate: Recently, the size of the Faculty Senate increased from 29 to 30. Three of the five open seats have been filled since the vote, and two Parsons seats still need to be filled as of November 19, 2024.
  • University Staff Senate: Elections begin in November for the next 2-year term.

Additional resources are available on the ACIR website

We want to hear from you and value your input. Contact the ACIR at ACIR@newschool.edu.

Thank you for your attention and patience at this time, as the Board of Trustees considers our fall report.

Sincerely,
Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility

Yasmine Davis, Co-Chair and Staff Senate Representative
Rhea Alexander, Faculty Senate Representative
