Academic Assessment Update: Completed Milestones & What’s Ahead
Dear Colleagues,
We are preparing to enter the final stage of our Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) review process following our successful submission of the Monitoring Report on August 1.
The MSCHE Peer Evaluation Team will be visiting The New School on Monday, September 8 and the morning of Tuesday, September 9. During their visit, the team will meet with a wide range of stakeholders across the university, including members of the Board of Trustees, President Towers, and Provost Kessler, as well as faculty and staff members of the assessment coordination teams for academic and non-academic units. The series of meetings will include representation from faculty, staff, and students.
This visit represents the next step in the context of our 2024 self-study and the work of the past year to return to full compliance with MSCHE standards. It is an important opportunity to share our collective progress in strengthening assessment and advancing a culture of teaching, learning, and continuous improvement.
In case you missed it, here’s a link to a message we shared recently celebrating the work that hundreds of faculty and staff performed last year related to academic assessment. Your efforts were critical in making this initiative a meaningful one. A brief summary of our accomplishments can be found here.
We invite you to join us on Tuesday, September 9 at 10:00 am in Wollman Hall (Eugene Lang Building, Room B500, 65 West 11th Street), when the Peer Evaluation Team will deliver its Oral Exit Report to the community. This session will be open to all and will provide a direct summary of the team’s observations and recommendations. As per MSCHE policy, the Oral Exit cannot be recorded.
Thank you for the extraordinary work that has brought us to this point. Your engagement has been essential, and we look forward to sharing this final step in the process together.
