Information About Resources to Support Remote Teaching
As you know, our university community is actively planning for any possible disruptions brought about by the public health challenge posed by the coronavirus. In an effort to help prepare for the possibility of needing to shift to a virtual teaching environment, we want to encourage everyone to prepare now and be ready to transition to remote instruction.
We recognize we have a unique variety of teaching needs across our university from studios to seminars. A number of task forces are working diligently to expand support and resources for teaching and learning in the coming days as we continue building upon our preparedness plans.
Meanwhile, we want to bring to your attention the following immediate resources created by the Office of Distributed Education to get our community up and running for remote teaching.
1. Webinar-style workshops are starting this Monday, March 9, three times daily every weekday. Sessions will be held at 10:00am, 3:00pm and 6:00pm. No need to register ahead of time; simplyfollow this link to join one of the sessions. The workshops include comprehensive orientations and helpful Q&A sessions with our instructional designers on the team.
2. Canvas and Zoom user-friendly guide: Please review this guide if you are new to Canvas or need a quick refresher: Remote Class Set-Up Guide.
3. Individual Support: The Distributed Education team will be collaborating with program directors across the university as well as IT to support and respond, on a case-by-case basis, to individual faculty needs not addressed by readily available technological resources. Office hours on a weekly basis will continue to be available as we work to expand support capacity during this extenuating circumstance. Individual appointments can be scheduled here: Schedule an appointment.
The university’s coronavirus page includes links to all of the above resources. Please check the page often as we expect to expand resources in the coming days.
Thank you in advance for taking the time now to become conversant with these basic digital tools that you can leverage to minimize any possible disruption to your on-site teaching. We look forward to working with you to develop the tools needed to continue serving our students with the dedication and creativity of our community!
