New Accessibility Functions to Support Remote Work and Study

Dear New School community,

In an effort to support students, faculty, and staff during this remote work period, The New School is piloting the literacy and language accessibility toolbar, Read&Write for Google Chrome, through the end of the spring semester.

Read&Write includes features such as text-to-speech, word prediction, picture dictionaries, audio maker, study highlighters, and screenshot reader, which uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to convert inaccessible documents and images into readable files within Google Drive and Canvas.

To access all of the tools, download the following extensions from the Google Chrome web store:

To learn more about how to download and use these tools, review the Read&Write Quick Reference Guide and watch Texthelp’s tutorial videos.

For New School staff and faculty who would like to receive tips from Texthelp and participate in surveys to gather support for continued access to Read&Write beyond the trial, please subscribe to their email list.

If you have any questions or concerns about the toolbar that are not addressed in the help guide or tutorial videos, please reach out to studentdisability@newschool.edu.
