Mental Health Resources at The New School

A message from Tracy Robin, Associate Provost for Student Health Services

Dear Students,

I hope you’re doing well and are excited about the start of the semester.

Our staff in Student Health Services know that many students have faced challenges over the past year. I’m writing today to make sure you’re aware of the resources the university offers to support your health and wellbeing. Please read the sections below to learn more about these services.

Free Counseling Sessions for All Students

  • Students can schedule up to 10 free online counseling sessions per academic year and individual mindfulness sessions through the Student Health Services portal.
  • Students receiving counseling or group therapy may also meet with the psychiatrist.
  • Any student can join one of the nine support groups led by Student Health Services staff that meet virtually every week. Log in to NarwhalNation to learn more; the group times, descriptions and sign up can also be found here.
  • Student Health Services offers an ear acupressure program with acupressure kits available in all of the residence halls or can be mailed to students living off campus.

Additional Resources

The university also offers services such as mindfulness sessions, problem management support, substance abuse intervention support, referrals to community providers and programs, and more. Please visit the Mental Health page on our website for more information.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to shs@newschool.edu if you need support. You are not alone, and Student Health Services staff are here to help you manage any emotional stressors you may be experiencing.
