Remember to Get Your Updated Bivalent Booster and Flu Shot
A message from Sonya Williams, Vice President for Human Resources
Dear Faculty and Staff colleagues,
Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance for COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, recommending all individuals age 12 and older receive the new updated bivalent booster. The bivalent booster provides enhanced protection from the original COVID-19 virus as well as the more recent Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5.
Everyone is strongly encouraged to get the updated bivalent booster as soon as they are eligible in order to protect yourself, your families, and our community. While the university is not requiring the updated booster at this time, a collective effort to stay up-to-date with vaccinations will help safeguard the community from potential surges in transmission and disruptions to ongoing work and activities this semester.
As a global center of travel, our New York City location increases the likelihood of experiencing a winter surge or a new emerging variant. There are also signs that we may see an earlier, stronger flu season, so it is important for us to protect our community against a dual surge. If you have questions regarding your booster eligibility, visit the CDC’s Vaccine FAQ page.
Reminder—Seasonal Flu Shot
Getting a flu vaccine is another important step each of us can take to protect ourselves and the community. Below are some resources to help you find a local flu vaccination site and schedule an appointment. Employees enrolled in medical plans operated by The New School are eligible for the flu shot at no cost.
