Our Mission
The New School was founded in 1919 to advance academic freedom, tolerance, and social justice. These values have been the foundation for our engagement with the New York City community for the last 100 years.
The New School has a long legacy of fostering the intellectual and cultural development of our community. Our students, faculty and staff are invested in the heart and soul of our neighborhood, and we work to contribute at many levels.
We constantly strive to drive concrete, positive change and partner with neighborhood organizations on volunteer projects and community development efforts.
By harnessing the creativity of all New Schoolers, we work to create a more sustainable and just world, both in our Greenwich Village neighborhood and the larger global community.
