College of Performing Arts Spring Performances
The New School’s College of Performing Arts (CoPA) is excited to welcome guests back to in-person performances on our campus. Join us for performances that push the boundaries of convention featuring gifted students from the School of Drama and Mannes School of Music.
Please note: We ask that guests attending events in person at New School venues comply with the following protocols to ensure a safe and healthy experience for everyone: Guests will need to provide proof of vaccination including a booster upon arrival to enter campus buildings. New Visions Directors Festival 2022

The New Visions Directors Festival features graduating MFA directors from the School of Drama who create productions of complex full-length plays. These productions highlight the unique talents of each director and provide an introduction to their work and aesthetic.
This year’s festival features productions of Li-ying Chien’s Dress in Code directed by I-Chen Wang MFA ’22, Enda Walsh’s Arlington directed by Jane Skapek MFA ’22, and Aleshea Harris’s Is God Is directed by Bakari Lebby MFA ’22.

Synopsis:
In a dystopian future, alone in a tower, Isla dreams of a new world and waits for her number to be called. A Young Woman finally understands her own horrifying fate, while a Young Man faces a stark decision. Evocative of Orwell’s 1984, Enda Walsh’s play uses dance, video and poetry to take an elegiac look at the ways we resist isolation and entrapment.

Synopsis:
Jun-fan is startled awake from this nightmare again. A Nurse offers a cure: Write down the story she tells. It could be the story of Jun-fan’s past lives. There may be unfinished business to resolve. Who knows: We all choose the stories we want to believe. And whatever we believe in, makes us who we are.

Synopsis:
In this new epic, Anaia and Racine are black twin sisters sent on a revenge mission from God. The task: to deliver justice to the Man who tried to kill them all eighteen years ago. Join Anaia and Racine on their journey across America to meet their father.
MACE: Mannes American Composers Ensemble

Founded in 2012 by composer Lowell Liebermann, MACE presents works by iconic American composers such as John Adams, Mason Bates and Steve Reich, as well as works by young and up-and-coming composers such as David Hertzberg and Nina C. Young. The ensemble embraces a broad view of the vital landscape of contemporary American music, and bolsters that landscape through premieres and commissions. This evening’s program will be conducted by David Fulmer.
Winner of the 2019 Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, David Fulmer has garnered numerous international accolades for his bold compositional aesthetic combined with his thrilling performances. A Guggenheim Fellow, and a leader in his generation of composer-performers, the success of his Violin Concerto at Lincoln Center in 2010 earned international attention and resulted in immediate engagement to perform the work with major orchestras and at festivals in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, and Australia.
