Mannes Orchestra: An Evening of Rochberg, Eastman and BartĂłk

The Mannes Orchestra returns to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in a concert featuring the recently rediscovered and acclaimed Symphony No. II – The Faithful Friend: The Lover Friend’s Love for the Beloved, by Julius Eastman. The New York Times calls it a “…symphony that radiates cosmic grandeur,” and said “…the quality of this student orchestra is as much a revelation as the dark brilliance of Eastman’s rediscovered work.” Mannes Orchestra performed the World Premiere in 2018 and is thrilled to perform this mesmerizing symphony to new audiences.

In addition to the Eastman selection, the orchestra will perform two dynamic works created for the ballet: George Rochberg’s Black Sounds, scored for wind, brass and percussion (no strings) and Bela BartĂłk’s, Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin, a tumultuous and tragic love story with an element of redemption at its close. Conductor: David Hayes.

Program:
George Rochberg: Black Sounds
Julius Eastman: Symphony No. II – The Faithful Friend: The Lover Friend’s Love for the Beloved
BĂ©la BartĂłk: Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin
