ACT-UAW – Part-Time Faculty Successor Contract Negotiations Update: Session #13

The New School and representatives for ACT-UAW, Local 7902, started the second of this week’s three consecutive, full-day bargaining sessions at 8:00 am today (Thursday, October 13). As promised in yesterday’s session, the university submitted its written responses to all 17 proposals that were discussed on Wednesday.

The union and the university also continued productive discussions around some remaining non-economic proposals, including: mentorship, non-discrimination, dispute grievance and arbitration, health and safety, and the labor management committee.

The union requested to end the session at 2:00 pm to use the remainder of the day to review the newest submitted proposals. The university agreed to this and used the rest of its day to work on fine-tuning the additional non-economic proposals discussed earlier today.

Both bargaining teams will reconvene tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. The university intends to discuss the framework for its economic package for all of Local 7902’s proposals by the end of the day tomorrow, and also plans to spend time with the union discussing the overall financial position of the university.

As we end the second of our three sessions this week, we look forward to working together effectively again tomorrow, and to continuing on the path toward a fair agreement that benefits our extraordinary part-time faculty and the rest of the university community.
