Negotiations Over a Fair Contract with ACT-UAW Local 7902 Continues

A message from Tokumbo Shobowale, Executive Vice President for Business and Operations; and Sonya Williams, Vice President for Human Resources

We wanted to give you an update on negotiations with ACT-UAW Local 7902 regarding the contract for our part-time faculty. As of midnight, our contract with Local 7902 expired and no agreement has been reached. The university and union will meet again to negotiate on Tuesday.

Throughout the negotiations, the university’s bargaining team has been responsive to the union’s proposals and requests, while carefully considering the university’s very real financial constraints. Unfortunately, over the last few days of scheduled bargaining sessions, the union has failed to respond to most of the university’s proposals and has repeatedly stalled the pace of progress.

We still believe that the union and the university could benefit immensely from the help of a mediator from the Federal Mediation And Conciliation Service. The university continues to welcome the use of a mediator, as we all have a responsibility to do everything possible to get to a positive outcome.

We will continue to make ourselves available, come to the bargaining table prepared to exchange proposals, and work with the union to reach a strong, fair, and financially responsible new agreement for our part-time faculty. Please visit the university’s labor relations website for up-to-date, accurate information about the contract negotiations.
