Bargaining Continues with SHENS-UAW Local 7902, Student Health Employees
On Monday, October 2, the university bargaining team met for the fourth time with SHENS-UAW Local 7902, the union representing our Student Health Employees.
A Productive Exchange of Proposals
The session was productive, with a mutual exchange of proposals and counter proposals. The New School responded to all of the union’s proposals, other than those newly raised in this meeting. During the session, we offered a counter proposal on a new benefit proposed by the union and conveyed general agreement on the union’s proposal relating to uniforms for medical staff. The university also withdrew a proposal regarding on-call assignment and compensation, to which the union had previously voiced opposition.
The union presented two new proposals consisting of a wage proposal and a benefits eligibility proposal, and the university will consider these carefully.
Availability to Bargain
The university is committed to furthering discussions and wants to move closer to a new agreement so SHENS members can enjoy an enhanced benefits and economic package as soon as possible.
The union has agreed to meet again on October 16 and then on November 6.
