Update on Latest Negotiations with SHENS-UAW 7902

The university bargaining committee met Monday with representatives of SHENS-UAW Local 7902, the union representing our Student Health Employees.

The session lasted approximately 2.5 hours, during which the university and the union discussed wages and university proposals to address sick leave provisions, certain retirement benefits, and Medigap health insurance benefits. We also discussed union proposals related to staff title changes and staffing.

The union has countered the university’s proposal for a professional development fund, and we look forward to discussing this issue further. Under the university’s proposal,  the university would dedicate funds annually to professional development, in addition to licensing fees being covered under existing contract language.

Discussions on wages and the nondiscrimination and disability rights provisions are also ongoing.

Our next scheduled bargaining session with SHENS is November 13th, and as always, the university stands ready and available to meet sooner or more frequently.
