Know Your Farmer and Your Food United States Deputy Secretary Of Agriculture to Speak at The New School

Kathleen Merrigan, deputy secretary of United States Department of Agriculture and creator of the Know Your Farmer / Know Your Food initiative will speak at The New School on Thursday, February 25, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., at 66 West 12th Street, room 407. Merrigan will discuss efforts to strengthen urban food sheds, including urban-rural linkages and the roles cities can play in rebuilding food systems.

Before joining the Department of Agriculture, Merrigan served as an assistant professor and director of the Agriculture, Food and Environment Program at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Boston. In 2008 she was an expert consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome.
