Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi and Other World Leaders Gather Mobilizing for Women’S Rights and Ending Violence

As the world enters the second decade of the 21st century, Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi and other women’s-rights leaders gather at The New School on March 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to build upon their collective experience and to highlight major challenges to women’s empowerment. They will share a roadmap for success for a future free from violence and grounded in equality both locally and globally.

Keynote speakers include: Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace laureate, 2003; founder, Defenders of Human Rights Center, Iran; Thoraya Obaid, executive director of UNFPA; under-secretary-general of the United Nations; Mary Robinson, president, Realizing Rights; former president of Ireland and former U.N. high commissioner for Human Rights; Melanne Verveer, United States ambassador-at-large for Global Women’s Issue

This event sponsored by the Social Research journal at The New School for Social Research and the Women’s Learning Partnership will take place in Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street.
