A Year For Tolstoy The New School Sets Date for International Conference
The Russians are coming! The New School is gearing up for an international conference commemorating the centenary of Leo Tolstoy’s death. Organized by faculty member Inessa Medzhibovskaya, a Tolstoy scholar at Lang College, Tolstoy in the 21st Century is slated for October 14-17, 2010. The conference will feature New School faculty and leading international scholars and writers. The Tolstoy year at The New School began in early March with a successful production of Tolstoy’s The Realm of Darkness, directed by faculty member Zishan Ugurlu, at LaMama Theatre.
Earlier this month, the Office of the Associate Provost for Curriculum and Learning invited members of the university community to discuss curricular opportunities for faculty and students to connect to the Tolstoy conference. Work is underway to develop an interdisciplinary festival of photography, theater, dance, music, interactive visuals, and cinema that would involve the entire university. Stay tuned!
