New World Axis New School Faculty Publishes Book on Fascism in Italy and Argentina
Frederico Finchelstein, associate professor of History at The New School for Social Research and Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, has published Transatlantic Fascism: Ideology, Violence, and the Sacred in Argentina and Italy, 1919-1945.
Drawing on extensive archival research on both sides of the Atlantic, Finchelstein examines Italy’s efforts to promote fascism in Argentina by distributing bribes, sending emissaries, and disseminating film, radio, and print propaganda. He investigates how Argentina’s political culture was in turn transformed as Italian fascism was appropriated, reinterpreted, and resisted by the state and the mainstream press.
Finchelstein is the author of four books on fascism, the Holocaust, and Jewish history in Latin America and Europe. He has published more than fifty academic articles and reviews on fascism, Latin American populism, genocide, and anti-Semitism in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian publications.
