Tune In To Jazz Students on WBGO 88.3 FM Blues Ensemble Celebrates the Month for Jazz
New School Blues Ensemble directed by Faculty Member Junior Mance will travel to Newark, New Jersey for a live broadcast at WBGO studios, in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, on Thursday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m. The ensemble features students, Yonatan Riklis, piano; Peter Yuskauskas, bass; Christopher Hansen, drums; Alon Albagli, guitar; Yusaf Aria, tenor saxophone; Jazzmeia Horn and Crystal Craft, vocals.
Jazz pianist, composer, and author of How To Play Blues Piano, Junior Mance has recorded 40-plus albums as a bandleader as well as numerous recordings as a sideman. In 1947, Mance left Roosevelt College in Chicago where he was majoring in music to begin his recording and touring career with Gene Ammons, Lester Young, Julian Cannonball, Adderley, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Eddie Lockjaw, Davis, and Sonny Stitt. Mance then played and recorded with Dinah Washington, and in 1958 he joined Dizzy Gillespie’s band. Be sure to tune in!
