Beginning with Beethoven Summer Institutes Bring Forth the Season
A stirring array of classical and contemporary music institutes, festivals, and seminars is afoot this summer at Mannes College. These include The Tenth Annual Mannes Beethoven Institute, June 1-June 7; The Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance, June 14-23; The Tenth Annual New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes, July 7-11; and The Twelfth Annual International Keyboard Institute and Festival, July 18-August 1.
The Beethoven Institute explores the composer’s duo sonatas, piano trios, and string quartets in a week of intensive study. Participating faculty include pianists Jonathan Biss, Yuri Kim, Robert McDonald, Thomas Sauer, J.Y. Song; the Brentano String Quartet, cellist Michael Kannen; theorist Eric Wen; theorist and Dean of Mannes College Joel Lester. Faculty concerts will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 8:00 p.m., and Friday, June 4 at 8:00 p.m. Participant concerts will take place on Sunday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Monday, June 7 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
