The New School News

Congratulations to The Class Of 2010 The New School Commencement to be Held on May 21

Former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Edward Babbitt will deliver the address at the university’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. President Bob Kerrey will address the graduates and confer honorary degrees on: Bruce Edward Babbitt, environmentalist; Jerome Seymour Bruner, psychologist and educator; Dr. Chen Yi, classical composer; Dr. Rita R. Colwell, scientist and educator; Jeremy Grantham, investment manager and philanthropist; and Alfredo Jaar, artist and architect.

Here are some firsts that historians of The New School will observe with this graduating class. It’s truly a green commencement, this is the first year that The New School will graduate Environmental Studies majors. And the number five is plus importante to Parsons. It’s the first time that the five newly-formed schools under the Parsons umbrella are lining up separately to toss their tassels. Even at this valedictory moment, The New School continues to be new!
