With the goal of raising funds to support students in the performing arts divisions of The New School, the newly formed New School Young Patrons Society held its first cultivation event earlier this month.

Under the umbrella of the University, we represent every performing arts discipline at the highest level,, said Mary Hastings, director of development for The New School for Drama and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Students at this crucial stage of study need financial and institutional support.”

The evening featured opening remarks from guest host and actor/director John Turturro, The New School for Drama’s 2008-09 Artist-in-Residence, followed by a series of Chopin piano selections performed by Matei Varga (Mannes ’08), and a vocal performance from Mannes student Kristina Bachrach, accompanied by Dina Pruzhansky on piano. The evening ended Jazz selects from students Or Baraket (bass) and Rotem Sivan (guitar). The reception was hosted by Jim Freund, a member of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music’s Board of Governors and his wife Barbara.

The New School Young Patrons Society is a network of young professionals under age 45 in business, media, and cultural fields who share an interest in the performing arts and a desire to increase their involvement with emerging generations of New York’s creative community.
