Femme Noir Flair: Drama Alum Xanthe Elbrick in Venus Flytrap
Tony Award nominee Xanthe Elbrick ’07 (Coram Boy) has signed on to appear in the world premiere of Anthony Dodge’s black comedy Venus Flytrap, set for a limited off-Broadway run this November. Elbrick will star as detective Butch Diamond. The production will be directed by Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge, who directed and choreographed the 2009 Broadway revival of Ragtime.
The Active Theater, along with Craig Haffner and Karl E. Held, will produce Venus Flytrap, which they describe as a work in the style of mystery writer Raymond Chandler., This new work has been characterized as a postmodernist-feminist mystery play. The playwrights, in their narrative, state You could call it femme noir. Or you could simply call it Venus Flytrap.”
