Jamming in Jupiter: New School Jazz Ensembles Perform on the High Line
In collaboration with artist Demetrius Oliver and Friends of the High Line, five bands from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music will perform at High Line Park in September and October. The performances are part of Oliver’s newest mixed-media work, Jupiter. The groups will play an interpretation of the composition Jupiter,, by John Coltrane, in different locations across the length of the park.
These live musical performances will accompany visual work by Oliver. Jupiter is a major public art commission combining original photography, music performances, and stargazing led by the New York chapter of the Amateur Astronomers Association.
The New School Jazz ensembles will be performing on Saturday, September 18, 6:00’7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 8:00’9:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 2, 6:00’7:00 p.m. Jupiter is on view through October 6. Access the High Line on Gansevoort, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 20th Streets along Tenth Avenue. Jupiter is free and open to the public.
