Drama Alumna Chosen as Playwrights Realm Writing Fellow

The Playwrights Realm, an Off-Broadway theater company, has selected Drama alumna Bekah Brunstetter ’07 as one of its four 2010’2011 Writers Fellows. As a fellow, Brunstetter is developing her new play, Hey Brother. She receives a monetary stipend as well as additional support in the form of office space at the Playwrights Realm offices, administrative assistance, and artistic support, all culminating in an open reading of her work.

Brunstetter’s play To Nineveh won the New York Innovative Theater Award for Best New Full-length Play in 2006, and her play OOHRAH! was produced off-Broadway by The Atlantic Theatre Company. Her work has been read, produced, and/or developed by New York Stage and Film, the Williamstown Theater Festival, Old Vic New Voices, Boston Theatre Works, Manhattan Theatre Source, The Alliance Theater, and The Atlantic. Her plays have been published by Samuel French, Playscripts, Original Works, and Smith & Krauss. She is a member of The Primary Stages Writer’s Group, At Play Productions, and the Naked Radio writing team. She is an alumna of the Women’s Project Playwrights Lab and the Ars Nova Play Group and was the 2009 playwright-in-residence at Ars Nova. She is the 2010 Playwright in Residence at the Finborough Theater, London.
