Drama Alum Selected to Participate in Playwriting Superlab,
Drama alum Janine Nabers ’08 has been selected to participate in SuperLab, a series of weeklong workshops for developing playwrights. The workshop will focus on Nabers’ latest play, Annie Bosh Is Missing.
SuperLab is a collaboration between Clubbed Thumb and Playwrights Horizons, two New York theater companies that are known for their support of playwrights and new plays. The program gives each playwright 29 hours over a week to devote to the improvement of his or her play. The playwright decides how to allot that time, integrating a director and actors who have been recruited for readings and scene work. The writers also benefit from close work with and feedback from Clubbed Thumb’s producing artistic director, Maria Striar, and Playwrights Horizon’s director of new play development, Adam Greenfield.
The workshop is funded by a $50,000 grant from Theater Communications Group, a national organization for nonprofit theaters. The organization runs a grant program, assisted by funds from the MetLife Foundation, to promote joint efforts among theatrical companies. The playwrights, directors, actors, and stage managers each receive a stipend for their work.
