Young Patrons Society Rings in the Holiday Season
The New School’s Young Patrons Society (YPS) held its annual holiday party on December 9 at the Molteni&C Dada Unifor New York flagship store in Soho. Bringing together young arts supporters, YPS raises funds for students in the performing arts divisions of The New School: The New School for Drama, Mannes College The New School for Music, and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
Students at this crucial stage of study need financial and institutional support, now more than ever,, said Robert LuPone, Drama’s program director.
The evening featured opening remarks from YPS chair Diana Wagner. As guests mingled, they were entertained by a series of jazz standards performed by New School Jazz students and alumni including Erika Kapin (violin), Shimrit Shoshan (piano), Nick Jozwiak (bass), and Darrell Smith (drums). The evening was capped by a 15-minute re-imagining of Frank Capra’s film It’s a Wonderful Life, presented by Drama alumni Marco Formosa, Patrick Allen, Betsy Aiello Sanders, Danielle Trueberg, and Brynne Kraynak and current student David Riley. The piece was directed by YPS committee member and Drama alumna Sherri Eden Barber.
YPS is a network of professionals under 45 in business, media, and culture who share an interest in the performing arts and a desire to support the next generation of performers in New York.
